Chris McLaughlin has revealed why he didn’t comment on the anti-catholic chanting that was heard throughout Sevco’s visit to Ross County.

As the teams came out onto the park The Billy Boys, apparently banned by the SFA in 2006 was heard clearly on Sky Sports setting the tine for the match.

Songs about the Pope, the IRA and various derogatory terms for Catholics were heard throughout the broadcast.

McLaughlin included the following line in his match report ‘It was a bad blunder and from it Rangers smelled blood.’

While Sky Sports have a commercial interest to look after BBC Scotland has no such restrictions but refused to comment on the issue during their radio broadcast or online reporting.

In 2015 McLaughlin reported arrests being made at a Hibs v Rangers match which resulted in him being refused media facilities at Ibrox which amounts to being banned from matches and media conferences.

That has lad to an apparent stand-off between the state broadcaster and the football club although Radio Scotland is full of voices friendly to Ibrox such as Derek Ferguson, Billy Dodds, Steven Thompson, Barry Ferguson, Alex Rae and Craig Paterson.

Barry Ferguson, Dodds, Thompson and Rae all received side letters to guarantee their EBT payments according to a report on the BBC.
