Stubbs is voted best Celtic sweeper of the last 30 years

|

Alan Stubbs has won a fans vote on Video Celts as the best sweeper in the last 30 years.

Johan Mjallby was a popular choice for centre half but the Swede lost out in the vote to find the best sweeper since Celtic’s Centenary side.

Stubbs had an up and down Celtic career but came into his own playing alongside Marc Rieper as Wim Jansen’s side stopped Rangers (IL) from making it ten-in-a-row.

Since the start of December Video Celts has given fans the chance to put together their best Celtic XI with the defence now in place.

Artur Boruc was voted in as the best keeper, Mikael Lustig and Kieran Tierney were the choices at full-back with Virgil van Dijk and now Stubbs in the centre of defence.

With no matches until the Scottish Cup tie with Brechin in a fortnight’s time Video Celts will continue to put together the best side since 1988.

Later tonight the vote will start for midfielders.
