Scott Brown has dropped a huge hint that his international days are over.
The Celtic skipper came out of retirement two matches into Scotland’s 2018 World Cup campaign largely to help out Gordon Strachan.
Following the failure to reach Russia and sacking of the former Celtic and Southampton boss there has been renewed speculation that Brown is ready to concentrate on his club career.
Yesterday the SFA announced mid-summer friendlies away to Peru and Mexico with Brown making it clear that with European qualifiers coming five weeks later he doesn’t expect to see any Celtic players flying out to South America.
“The holiday time is huge,” The Scotsman reported the Celtic skipper saying. “Last year we got six days and came back in and went straight into the Champions League qualifiers. We will probably get a week and a half this year.
“It is getting not so good in the holiday but you get the opportunity to play for Scotland. There will be a new manager in and he will obviously want to see everybody.
“So there is a couple of friendlies coming in March and June as well, it will be good for him but maybe not so good for all the Celtic lads.”
Should Celtic win the SPFL title they will play their first Champions League qualifier on July 10 or 11.
The farce of the Scotland international side took another twist today when Michael O’Neill rejected the chance to take over from Strachan.
After over 100 days the SFA are effectively back to square one with Performance Director Malky Mackay already ruled out.
