Leigh Griffiths turned in a mature performance after the match as he went in front of the BT Sport cameras following Celtic’s 2-1 win over Partick Thistle.

The striker missed the Scottish Cup win over Brechin City due to an ankle injury and took his place on the substitute bench last night alongside Moussa Dembele.

Odsonne Edouard retained his place in the side but was joined in the second half by Griffiths in attack as Celtic turned the game around.

The former Hibs striker was clearly the star of the show, earning the BT Sport Man of the Match award.

Asked whether he would rather have come on from the start he replied: “Yeah I would have but I’m just coming back from injury, the gaffer can’t change a winning side from the weekend which I’ve got to be aware of. I try to make a difference and that’s what I did.”

After being asked what more he felt that he had to do to get a regular start he said: “There is competition for places here, it’s not just one automatic start, there are three great strikers all vying for that one place. It’s difficult and you need to bide your time.”

Last night’s win put Celtic 11 points ahead of Aberdeen who face Sevco at Ibrox tonight.

While Brendan Rodgers attempts to bring in new faces during the transfer window he has increasing speculation to deal with over Moussa Dembele.

The French was left on the bench for the second game running, with Griffiths coming on to score against Thistle it looks very unlikely that Dembele will be in the starting XI to face Hibs on Saturday.
