Sevco’s ominous silence

Sevco have maintained a misplaced silence today despite administration being reported on across the main Scottish news titles.

Just after 6pm on Monday The Sun broke the story with quotes from Oddschecker explaining that a number of bets had been placed on the Ibrox club being relegated.

With Sevco currently sitting in third place relegation looks unlikely but a 15 point deduction for going into administration followed by a cull of high earners makes it a possibility.

The failed attempt to bring in Derek McInnes and climbdown over Jamie Murray has highlighted the cash problems at Ibrox with no sign of Dave King complying with the Court of Session ruling that backed the Takeover Appeal Board.

Stories of administration have surfaced from time to time in recent years but have rarely gone offline.

The digital editions of The Scotsman, Evening Times and Daily Record quickly picked up on the story from The Sun which took the tale to a new audience.

Issuing a statement can be double edged in that it can give legitimacy to stories but when the major Scottish news titles are discussing a subject as serious as administration a brief statement would provide reassurance to the gullibles.

With no response from inside Ibrox more fuel has been added to the rumour with only a signing of £2m or more able to kill off the story that it is only a matter of time before Scotland’s newest senior club goes into administration.
