Chris Sutton expects Celtic’s transfer activity to burst into life in the final two days of the window.

It has been slow going for hoops fans with no new faces on display today against Brechin City in the Scottish Cup.

Lewis Morgan can be watched in action at lunchtime against Aberdeen while Marvin Compper will watch from the stand as he recovers from a calf injury.

After three transfer windows the squad is now very much the one created by Brendan Rodgers who can be very choosy about who he brings in to a squad that has lost one domestic game in 18 months.

Major transfers have been thin on the ground so far with Sutton expecting the pace to heat up with Celtic ready to pounce as the window draws to a close.

There are 10 days to go in this window and, if it is real quality the Celtic fans are hoping to land, there has to be an acceptance it may well go right to the last day,” he told the Daily Record.

Sure Rodgers could go and pick up cast-offs, unwanted players and those stuck on the fringes at clubs.

After all, that’s the market Murphy, Martin, Cummings, Goss and Naismith came from.

For all they will improve Rangers and Hearts, they were unwanted at their clubs and deemed surplus to requirements. That’s not criticism, it’s fact.

Rodgers says he’s looking for quality. If you are trying to improve a team that has won the last four trophies out of four, went 69 domestic games unbeaten and made the Champions League group stage in the past two seasons, you might have to pay out and you might have to wait.

It’s a game of poker. Clubs wait, wait, wait, then bang. Two days before the window closes all hell breaks loose.

It’s a game of chess and a game of patience which, in fact, may also have an effect on Celtic when it comes to players going out.

Gambles will be taken down south in the final hours. A couple of daft bids will come in for players, I’m sure.”
