Bringing in a new goalkeeper has suddenly become a priority for Brendan Rodgers as the transfer window comes to a close.
The full extent of Craig Gordon’s injury will emerge after scans but as of now Dorus de Vries and Ross Doohan are the two keepers available.
Gordon’s form earlier in the season had supporters speculating about a new keeper but in the six matches since the disaster at Tynecastle the Scotland keeper has only been beaten from the penalty spot.
Getting the right quality in goals is a difficult science to master with Celtic spoiled over the last decade by Artur Boruc, Fraser Forster and Gordon with that collection costing less than £3m to put together.
With a very tight timescale in mind it’s more likely that Celtic will bring in a keeper on loan although if the right opportunity came up Rodgers would love to bring in more than a short term stopper.
From the time of the final whistle against Hibs Rodgers would have been getting contacted about fantastic keepers but alongside Stevie Woods he’ll decide who to bring in with a few of them fairly familiar faces.I
MICHEL VORM
An obvious target after Rodgers signed the Dutchman for Swansea in 2011.
After three seasons in the EPL making 89 appearances he opted to go to Spurs in July 2014 where he has started just nine EPL matches as back up to Hugo Lloris.
His ambition has to be questioned over that move but he may still fancy one big challenge and a reunion with Brendan Rodgers and Scott Sinclair.
Despite being out of contract in the summer Spurs are unlikely to be keen on losing their number two keeper with just a couple of days left in the transfer window.
DAVID MARSHALL
He shouldn’t have any problems adapting to life at Celtic after coming through the ranks and keeping a clean sheet in the Nou Camp as a teenager.
Marshall was unlucky to lose his place to Artur Boruc at the start of the 2004/05 season, there was no way back once the Holy Goalie took the gloves.
Initially at Norwich then in a seven year stint at Cardiff he proved his goalkeeping credentials including one exceptional season in the EPL.
Allan McGregor has relegated him to the role of back-up as Hull toil in the Championship.
He is under contract with Hull until summer 2019 but having paid out EPL wages Hull could be happy to see the 32-year-old move on.
DANNY WARD
Being third choice to Liverpool’s two bungling top team keepers must be soul destroying for Ward who was first choice at Huddersfield last season as they won promotion.
Brendan Rodgers signed him from Morecambe then sanctioned a loan to Aberdeen where he was too successful and recalled half way through the season.
Despite his goalkeeping problems Jurgen Klopp hasn’t given the 24-year-old a look in this season.
Ward could be viewed as a permanent signing and would surely jump at first team football under Rodgers and the chance to become a regular in Ryan Giggs’ Welsh international side.
WES FODERINGHAM
You cannot be serious although a few Celtic fans on twitter made the cheeky suggestion.
Having suffered two five goal hammerings from Celtic the former Swindon keeper would surely jump at the chance to avoid further embarrassment and the chance to follow Fraser Forster into the England side.
Earlier this season Foderingham signed a new Ibrox deal keeping him in Glasgow until 2020 but with cash tight at the company £500,000 in readies would be warmly welcomed for the 27-year-old.
ARTUR BORUC
Could there be one more turn out of the Holy Goalie?
After helping Bournemouth to promotion and safety in the EPL the former Polish internationalist has had to settle for cup tie football this season- which ended in a 3-0 defeat from Wigan in midweek.
Following spells at Fiorentina and Southampton his social media output would suggest that the 37-year-old is loving life on the south coast.
The lure of Celtic, the spotlight, the chance to pick up two winners medals and a trip to Ibrox in March may be too good to resist but whether he would fit in with the Rodgers regime is an entirely different story.
ANGUS GUNN
Celtic and Manchester City have a very close relationship as evidenced by the deals for John Guidetti, Jason Denayer, Dedryck Boyata and Patrick Roberts.
Gunn seemed stuck in the shadows at the Etihad until going on loan to Norwich at the start of the season where his form has brought him in to the full England international squad after making seven appearances for the u-21 side.
His dad, former Aberdeen keeper Bryan, has played a big part in his development but it seems unlikely that he would leave Norwich in mid-season.
