After a couple of days braving the fiercest of the Scottish weather Garry Monk got to discover what life at Celtic is all about.

The former Middlesbrough manager was given the red carpet treatment by Brendan Rodgers as he threw open the doors of Lennoxtown to see how the Celtic boss prepared for one of the biggest games of the season.

After two indifferent performances Rodgers called it exactly right against Roberto Mancini and a squad that had cost more than £100m to assemble. The former Manchester City boss isn’t in Russia for the weather.

Over three Champions League group stage defeats some of the magic of Celtic Park had been tarnished with the feeling being that the atmosphere seemed to be inspiring the visitors rather than the home team.

Last night Celtic came out the traps with purpose as well as passion as they pinned Zenit back across their own penalty box.

Late in the second half Callum McGregor applied the finishing touches to a tactical masterplan that ensured Monk returned to the managerial job hunt armed with plenty of ideas from his visit north of the border.
