The best fan videos of Celtic v Zenit St Petersburg

Once again Celtic Park was the viewing centre of Europe as the famous Glasgow arena breathed life into the Europa League for the visit of Zenit St Petersburg.

Having brought Inter Milan over three years ago Roberto Mancini had a fair idea of what to expect but Brendan Rodgers was a smarter opponent than Ronny Deila.

Zenit have spent more than £100m assembling their squad but were thankfully short of the excellence shown by Bayern Munich and Paris Saint Germain in the autumn.

Without a full team through injury Celtic found something special, adapted away from their favoured formation and pinned the Russian’s back for long periods.

James Forrest was picked out for some special treatment but with Kieran Tierney flying down the left there was a balance to the way that Celtic pressed Zenit back.

The chemistry was right on and off the park, the tactics and substitutions perfect- when Callum McGregor’s shot hit the back of the net another chapter in the legend of Celtic Park was signed off.

SCENE SETTER

Three defeats in the group phase of the Champions League had taken it’s toll but despite recent set-backs the fans filled Celtic Park with optimism and enthusiasm.

Zenit had been built up as world beaters, manager Roberto Mancini is from the top drawer but with a driven manager, a hungry group of players and the backing of the support the odds can be upset.

Recently it appears to have inspired opponents but last night it was Advantage Celtic as this team put down a marker that 2018 has more European highlights to enjoy than 2017.

YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE

Staring off in the mid-sixties it’s maybe most diplomatic to say that YNWA is shared between Celtic and Liverpool fans rather than nail down who sang it first.

Shortly before the teams appear the legendary anthem sets the scene and begins the countdown to the arrival of the teams, the competition anthem, the huddle and fireworks!

With one curve of seating covering two thirds of the stadium the song and atmosphere sweeps round and round the ground inspiring the players as they prepare in the dressing room to step out onto the stage.

SPECIAL

They have all commented on it, the great and the good from Leo Messi to Paolo Maldini they have all left Celtic Park bowled over by the incredible atmosphere.

The old Jungle created a din and a growl, in 1995 the stadium was rebuilt but it was 2001 that the Champions League arrived and took the stadium to a new level.

Barcelona, AC Milan, Manchester United and others have tumbled in the east end of Glasgow, last night it seemed that the old magic was back at work.

JUST CAN’T GET ENOUGH

A fairly modern addition but in saying that it has been used in celebration now for the best part of ten years.

Yet another adaption from the charts, the eighties hit summed up brilliantly the way that Neil Lennon brought Celtic Park back to life.

In the aftermath of a goal, an important goal, a brilliant goal from Callum McGregor the fans were in full voice to celebrate the breakthrough that a fantastic performance merited.

LISBON LIGHT UP

Perfectly timed to add some extra atmosphere and give the team a push on the park.

After a chorus or two of ‘There’s only one King Billy’ the lights started to go on as the fans celebrated the greatest European night of them all.

Last year’s 50th anniversary provided a refresher for the younger generation of the 90 minutes that set Celtic apart from the pack, and an event that gains in stature as time passes by.

Inspirational.
