Scott Brown has hit out at Craig Levein’s claim that players need extra protection from the Celtic captain.

The Hearts boss made the claim after 16-year-old Harry Cochrane was injured in the 3-1 defeat from Celtic in an incident that no-one outside the Tynecastle dug out has had any complaints about.

Brown enjoys a 50-50 as much as anyone but the clash with Cochrane failed to fall into that category with referee Craig Thomson allowing play to continue.

After the match Levein was on Brown’s case and continued that up on Thursday with his claim against Brown, on Saturday at Kilmarnock referee Kevin Clancy didn’t hesitate to book the Celtic skipper.

He has done his job, hasn’t he?” Brown told the Evening Times. “I was booked with my first foul [on Saturday] and I think that is exactly what Craig was looking to do.”

Brown and his team-mates can now enjoy a rare full week of training ahead of the Scottish Cup tie with Partick Thistle.

That is followed by two matches against Zenit St Petersburg either side of a visit from St Johnstone as the hoops look to increase their eight point Premiership lead over second placed Aberdeen.
