Peter Lawwell has confirmed that Celtic weren’t consulted before Scotland’s mid-summer trips to Peru and Mexico were announced.

Stewart Regan appeared to arrange those fixtures without any consultation to booby-trap the ground for his successor.

Travelling halfway across the world for meaningless friendlies five weeks before Champions League qualifiers has gone down badly with clubs and players with PFA Scotland ready to push for a four week break for their members.

Binning that jolly would be a good first move for Regan’s successor while those fixtures are games that a new manager would rather avoid.

Speaking to Radio Scotland Lawwell admitted: “We found out about it for the first time reading it in the paper and clearly we’ve had eight Celtic players in the Scotland team so in terms of building relations with clubs, it certainly wasn’t the best way to go about it.

“I am hopeful because there’s only one way to go and you’ve got good people around and the fact that there is now a realisation that things haven’t been perfect and they need to change – and that’s from the media as well.”

With Regan gone it seems that Allan McRae and Rod Petrie are running the show with no sign of a new manager coming in.

Michael O’Neill rejected an approach from the SFA while Walter Smith has withdrawn his interest after a week of speculation.

On Saturday morning there was even a report of Alex McLeish getting fed up waiting for a call to replace Gordon Strachan.
