Graeme Murty is dreaming of giving Sevco fans their first trophy.

Six years after starting life away to Brechin City Scotland’s newest club have still to get their hands on a meaningful trophy.

After humiliating defeats to Queen of the South, Raith Rovers and Alloa Mark Warburton delivered the 2016 Challenge Trophy but the celebrations were muted.

Last season Celtic ended Sevco’s interest in two cup competitions and finished the season 39 points ahead in the Premiership.

Earlier this season Pedro Caixinha was sacked soon after losing to Motherwell in the Betfred Cup semi-final with Murty hoping to book a place in the quarter finals in the Scottish Cup by beating Ayr United on Sunday.

Go to 7 min 45 for first trophy

Dreaming of lifting a Hampden trophy Murts told the club website: “The fans have been through a great deal at this football club recently and the squad that deliver the first trophy to them will see a massive outpouring of emotion.

We have to understand that and we have an opportunity, we think on any given day we are more than a match for the teams in this country.

We have to give ourselves the opportunity to be successful which means we have to plan it, we have to prep it and we have to show an exemplary attitude – if we do that we have an opportunity but we have to be in the next round.

If we have that attitude and we work extremely hard then we have an opportunity to deliver a cup.”

Murty is in charge until the end of the season after Derek McInnes knocked back the chance to quit Aberdeen for Ibrox.
