Stewart Regan was paid £250,000 after ‘resigning’ as chairman of the SFA.

According to a report in the Daily Record the outgoing Chief Executive pocketed the pay out following his Hampden departure.

The secretive nature of the SFA won’t reveal details of the payment but in an industry scrapping for every penny it seems incredible that someone collects almost a years salary for ‘resigning’.

To all intents and purposes Regan was sacked. One week he was arranging mid summer trips to Mexico and Peru and talking up the Nations Cup draw, soon afterwards he was ‘resigning’ after a meeting of the SFA board.

If Regan genuinely resigned then there is no need for a pay off, if he was sacked then football fans should be told the truth and again he quits without a pay off.

If he feels that his sacking was unfair he can take the SFA to court.

For the cynic however it looks like a back-room deal has been struck to save face on both sides with the fans and clubs paying up for a confidentiality clause.

With a glamour friendly coming up at Hampden next month against Costa Rica the first 20,000 fans to buy a ticket are effectively paying for Regan’s silence.
