When a manager questions the courage of his players there is often no way back.

In some cases it can be an attack from a manager that knows he is on his way out the door and wants to get something out of his system and deflect blame.

Last night Brendan Rodgers doubted the courage of his players, without question the Irishman will be in charge of Celtic when they kick off next season’s European qualifiers.

Rodgers is generally very supportive of his players in public but after some European defeats he hasn’t held back, after losing 5-0 to Paris Saint Germain he compared his side’s play to that of an u-12 side.

Reflecting on the 3-0 defeat from Zenit St Petersburg the Celtic boss told The Sun: “We gave away three very poor goals and it’s a disappointing end.

Defensively, we lacked aggression, especially in the first half If we had shown more courage and more belief we could have got a result.

We said at half-time everything was too sideways and backwards and that’s about bravery and courage to play. And at the third goal, we conceded possession too cheaply.”

Rodgers has got two days to reorganise his side ahead of a top-of-the-table clash against Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Sunday.

Due to injuries wholesale changes can’t be made to the side but Cristian Gamboa and Jack Hendry are likely to come into consideration to shake up the hoops defence.
