Season over for Ryan Jack

Ryan Jack’s season is over after having to undergo surgery for an injury he picked up in December.

The midfielder managed to pick up four red cards in 17 SPFL appearances but won’t be adding to that record until next season.

Jack joined Sevco last summer on a three year contract from Aberdeen as Pedro Caixinha went on a disastrous spending spree.

Those red cards curtailed his appearances with initial hopes that time would heal the injury that he picked up against Motherwell proving to be over optimistic.

Graeme Murty told The Sun: “ He’s had surgery on his knee. And he’s following a very, very boring – for him – protocol that means he’s not going to be weight-bearing.

It’s something we have to be very cautious with and be patient. The conservative route after the surgery is vital in our mind to make sure that we get Ryan back at the very top of his form and his fitness.

It’s a blow for us as he’d been doing really well. It’s a blow for him. I think you saw from his journey to playing for Rangers that he was desperate to come to us, desperate to be on this stage, desperate to wear the shirt. Now he’s had a significant setback.”

Despite Caixinha’s disastrous summer spending spree the lack of Financial Fair Play in Scottish football means that Sevco can run up debt without any penalty.

Four loan signings were brought in during January with only Carlos Pena moving out on loan with Sevco still picking up the bulk of his wages.

Bruno Alves, Eduardo Herrera and Nico Kranjcar watched the win over Hearts with that trio picking up over £80,000 per week which is close to the sum borrowed from Close Brothers to see out the season.
