Kieran Tierney has revealed that his winter break consisted of just SIX days.

The Celtic defender is currently enjoying a rare free midweek but over the next couple of weeks Brendan Rodgers side face back-to-back midweek clashes with Zenit St Petersburg and a home Premiership clash with Dundee.

Tierney enjoyed a mini-break in Tenerife before joining up with Celtic in Dubai but is quick to put down the idea that it was a holiday camp in the Gulf state.

I think we have played a lot more games than anyone else and there are times when maybe we haven’t looked ourselves,” the defender told The Evening Times.

We were able to get a break with the winter shutdown but it wasn’t as though we got too much time off. I think overall we had six days of a break.

I think, too, that sometimes people look at it and see that we were away in Dubai but it wasn’t a holiday camp for us. We were over there and working pretty hard with lots of intense sessions put in.”

Tierney has managed to avoid the injury problems that have struck many of his team mates and will have a crucial role to play over the coming weeks.

The extent of the injuries suffered by Dedryck Boyata and Kris Ajer away to Kilmarnock has still to be determined although there does appear to be some good news on the injury front.

Anthony Ralston played the full 90 minutes as Celtic beat St Johnstone 3-0 in the SFA Youth Cup with reports that Stuart Armstrong, Marvin Compper and Mikael Lustig are all close to a return to first team action.
