Danny Wilson has claimed that he had to tell John Greig the truth about his Sevco departure and that there was ‘an underlying issue’ at the club.

The defender joined Colorado Springs last month after talks about a new Sevco contract amounted to nothing.

Graeme Murty initially praised the players attitude but changed his tune when Wilson revealed that Director of Football Mark Allen failed to come up with the contract offer that had been promised.

The departure of the young defender is at odds with the picture of happiness being portrayed inside Ibrox following the arrival of four players on loan during the January transfer window.

Russell Martin has taken Wilson’s place in defence with the former Liverpool starlet keen to get his version of events on the record.

Graeme Murty was great with me too, especially in the last few months,” Wilson told The Sun. “I’ve got no issue with him.

He asked me to be a leader for him on and off the pitch. I felt I did that. He gave me a lot of responsibility.

Whenever I spoke to him he was genuine. He wanted to keep me, but there was obviously an underlying issue at the club.

I spoke to John Greig when I was leaving, just to mark his card about my situation.

I’ve known him since I was nine. He’s an absolute legend at the club. I wanted John to know the truth.

He was totally understanding once he knew the situation. He’s a class man. It meant a lot to me that John was supportive.”

Sevco have still to offer Kenny Miller and David Bates contracts for next season.
