Celtic u-16’s win Newcastle tournament

Celtic’s u-16 side won a four team tournament at Newcastle today that involved three English sides.

The young hoops opened up with a 0-0 draw against Newcastle United then followed that up with a 1-0 win over Norwich and a 2-0 victory over Wigan.

As well as the domestic fixture list Celtic like to take in games against English sides and continental tournaments to compliment the development of their youngest players.

While the u-16’s were enjoying three matches in one day Celtic’s Development League side were left kicking their heels last night when their match with Motherwell was postponed due to the snow at Cappielow.

Celtic are nine games behind second placed Dundee in the Development League with 15 of their 26 fixtures still to be played.

On Friday night Tommy McIntyre’s side begin eating into the backlog with a game against St Mirren at Airdrie (kick off 6pm) with a home match with Aberdeen scheduled for Tuesday February 20.
