Davie Hay has hit out at the hysterics of Ibrox assistant referee Douglas Ross.

While the Celtic Ambassador can just about understand the decision to send off Jozo Simunovic the excitement of the Tory MP is a different matter.

Furiously waving his flag and screaming ‘red card, red card’ Ross showed the behaviour of a fan in the stand when Alfredo Morelos clashed with the Celtic defender.

Writing in the Evening Times Hay stated: “I thought the Rangers striker made an absolute meal of it with the way he went rolling around the pitch as though he’d been shot but I also thought that Simunovic was stupid for putting himself into that situation – and then leaving his team-mates in the lurch.

I would also say that the linesman Douglas Ross took great delight the minute he saw the incident with his ‘red card! Red card!’ shouts. I don’t think he could wait to get the flag up and get him off.”

Ross has risen through the ranks over the last two seasons, taking time away from Westminster and his constituency to pick up match fees from the SFA.

Although Celtic managed to come out on top at Ibrox there were a number of decisions that upset hoops supporters.

Referee Willie Collum appeared to apply an amnesty to shirt pulling, Declan John escaped any card punishment for dangerous lunges at James Forrest and Tom Rogic during the first half while Danny Candeias, Sean Goss and Fabio Cardoso were only yellow carded for deliberate kicks at opponents.
