Decision time at the SFA

It’s not just Hungary and Alex McLeish that will be occupying the thoughts of the SFA as they enjoy the sights of Budapest today.

March 31 is the deadline for clubs wishing to play in Europe next season with a number of criteria having to be met to ensure something of a level playing field.

Since they last enjoyed a foreign jolly the SFA has lost their chief executive with something of a power struggle going on among the various committee members.

Without Stewart Regan the old guard of Rod Petrie and Alan McRae are looking isolated with two important issues bubbling away in the background.

Appointing a successor to Regan and how they deal with the seven month long enquiry into the licence given to Rangers (IL) in 2011 will overshadow the action on the park in Budapest.

More immediately is the issue of European licences for 2018/19.

No amount of financial gymnastics will bring Sevco’s losses down to €5m with a lot of people watching closely at how the situation is dealt with.

Should Sevco be wrongly given a licence then it’ll be Hibs, Aberdeen or Kilmarnock that misses out, their directors may wish to move on but it’s likely that they’ll have difficulties explaining that stance to their supporters.
