Stephen Robinson pointed the finger of suspicion at Craig Thomson after Motherwell’s 0-0 draw with Celtic.

A red card for Cedric Kipre upset the Motherwell boss as he highlighted a fact about Craig Thomson’s refereeing this season.

Speaking to Radio Scotland Robinson said: “I’ve seen it back again and I’m 100% certain that it wasn’t a red card. Scott Brown has pushed him, Cedric has brushed his leg against him, certainly not the stamp that was indicated as the reason for the red card. Everybody can see that.

At worst it could have been two yellow cards. I don’t want to be negative but those things spoil the game for supporters. We’ve got a big crowd in today, a big game, highly competitive then we have to sit back and play for a point.

That’s a disappointing aspect of it. The same referee has sent off five of our players and he’s not sent off any more Premiership players this season. That’s hard to take.”

The last player that Thomson had sent off before today was Kipre in the Betfred Cup Final in November which Celtic won 2-0.

His main controversy with Motherwell occurred in August when Trevor Carson, Carl McHugh and Charles Dunne were sent off in a 3-0 defeat at St Johnstone.

In January Thomson was the referee in Motherwell’s 2-0 Scottish Cup win over Hamilton Accies with just three yellow cards handed out with Allan Campbell and Craig Tanner of Motherwell booked alongside Darren Lyon of Hamilton.

Motherwell’s Carl McHugh and Olivier Ntcham were also booked today with the draw taking Celtic ten points ahead of second placed Sevco with a game in hand over the Graeme Murty’s side.
