Brendan Rodgers isn’t expecting Scott Sinclair to quit Celtic in the summer.

The two week international break provided a dearth of action to report on with excitement over Alex McLeish’s new look Scotland side failing to fill half of the seats inside Hampden.

‘Sinclair wants away’ was part of the international media package sandwiched in alongside similar tales about Moussa Dembele and Kieran Tierney with a few fliers about ‘Rodgers for Arsenal’.

The Celtic boss is on top of every issue at his club and knows the news pattern that comes with success.

People have to fill pages and write headlines,” he told the Evening Times: “Scott is very happy here. Of course he hasn’t played in the last few games because we changed the tactical ideas of the team but this is a period of the season now that he loves.

He is a really competitive player and he turns it on in the big games. He is still very important to what we do. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is interest in him.

He has scored more than 40 goals since he has been here over the two seasons and if you can do that as well as create all the assists that he does then he is always going to create an interest.

He has had experiences that makes him appreciate what he has here. He is on a nice little break and he looked very good this week in training. He is here for the run-in.”

With his partner, Helen Flanagan, based in Manchester where she appears on Coronation Street it has been easy to find loose reasons to link Sinclair with a move south although Brighton and Bournemouth are probably a bit too far south.

Sinclair joined Celtic in 2016 from Aston Villa and is under contract until the summer of 2020.
