Scotland make their move for Woods

Alex McLeish wants to make Stevie Woods Scotland’s goalkeeping coach.

The new Scotland boss, who received £1.7m in EBT payments while managing Rangers (IL) is on a charm offensive to win over Celtic fans to the SFA.

Bringing in a Celtic man in Peter Grant is one move with Woods being sounded out to replace Jim Stewart according to a report in The Sun.

Woods has been at Celtic since 2007 and is highly regarded in the game for the way in which he developed Fraser Forster from a Newcastle reserve into an England internationalist.

During his playing days he worked with McLeish while he was in charge of Motherwell.

After the botched attempt to appoint Walter Smith, Rod Petrie and Allan McRae turned to McLeish who hadn’t worked in UK management since 2014.

With Scotland heading for a mid-summer friendlies with Peru and Mexico it seems that the SFA are doing everything to to try and win backing from Scotland’s most successful club.
