Graeme Murty will put spin and hype ahead of goals when he names his side to face Celtic on Sunday.
Against Falkirk on Sunday Jason Cummings came in to score a hat-trick stealing attention away from Alfredo Morelos whose finishing was decidedly Sunday League.
The recent campaign to hype the tubby Columbian into a £22m Chinese transfer target is as essential as any policy at Ibrox with Morelos assured a starting place on Sunday against the champions.
Morelos was reported to be confused over the interest from China with talks still to begin about improving his Ibrox contract.
Despite his recent struggles in front of goal Murty can’t be seen to relegate the striker to the bench with Sevco trying to promote the notion that Morelos is worth £11m.
Cummings has quickly tuned into the mentality of the Ibrox support but from personal experience Billy Dodds knows that big names and reputations will always come first over facts and goals.
Speaking to the Daily Record the former Ross County assistant manager said: “I’ve got a feeling the answer Cummings gets might be the same one I got (getting dropped for Ronald de Boer).
“Given the way Rangers have been playing and Murty’s preferred system and personnel, it looks to me like he might go back on to the bench.
“Of course a lot hinges on whether or not Murphy is fit. I’d imagine that’s the key.
“I can’t imagine Murty wanting to move a couple of positions. If Murphy isn’t fit, would he move Windass wide to accommodate Cummings behind Morelos? I’m not sure. That’s changing two positions whereas Murphy, Candeias, Windass and Morelos has worked.
“I can’t see Cummings playing ahead of Morelos because he stretches teams and runs in behind constantly.”
In 27 Premiership appearances this season Morelos has scored 13 goals.
