Walter Smith was loathe to admit it but he fears that Brendan Rodgers has established the natural order.

The former Ibrox boss, who was never knighted by Her Majesty due to his club’s tax scams, watched in horror Celtic’s recent 3-2 win over Sevco at Ibrox.

After that defeat Graeme Murty admitted that the tribute act would never have got a better chance to beat Celtic.

It was the manner of that defeat that hurt Smith and pained the Sevco support. The consequences are a nightmare as Celtic close in on their seventh title with the Ibrox club is disarray as they tackle multiple problems off the park.

The letters T, E and N are beginning to look ominous, especially for Smith whose own quest for that target was killed stone dead by Wim Jansen.

Looking at another shambles of a season at Ibrox Smith told The Sun: “I don’t think anything has happened this season to make Celtic too concerned.

I hate to use these two words, but the ‘natural order’ has been that Celtic have been winning championships.”

According to Smith there is only one way to stop the hoops but without Gavin Masterton pulling strings at the Bank of Scotland or fresh tax scams to follow things look bleak for the tribute act.

Smith added: “To reverse that Rangers must get stability and an influx of a better level of player. That needs a level of investment.

It is not rocket science. It is not as if you are going to get someone from Qatar or Russia to come along, but teams that have had that investment have been very successful.

Every team needs to up their level of investment if they are to challenge and the Rangers board must try and find that.

It’s been extremely awkward for them considering what they have taken over and that has to move on to the pitch.

Rangers need a manager that is going to stay for a few years and try to get the club back to a winning formula again.”

Dave King swept to power three years ago promising investment, transparency and to stop Selik.

Mr King has to come up with £11m within 10 days or his Ibrox reign will be ended by the Cold Shoulder from the Takeover Appeal Board and Court of Session.
