The troubled career of Anthony Stokes has taken on another twist with the striker reported missing by Apollon Smyrni.

The striker joined the Greek side in February after agreeing to have his Hibs contract cancelled by mutual consent despite being the top scorer at the Edinburgh club.

In less than 24 months Stokes has been shown the door by Celtic, Blackburn and Hibs with his future at Apollon Smyrni in doubt after he failed to show up for training for three days running.

Apollon are fourth bottom of the Greek table and have had little back from Stokes who hasn’t scored in any of his four appearances.

Georgios Paraschos, the Apollon boss told the Daily Record: “Stokes has not appeared at training for the past three days. We will be seeking an apology.

This is unacceptable. We have had no explanation from him.”

After leaving Celtic in the summer of 2016 Stokes joined Blackburn Rovers but had his contract cancelled soon after Tony Mowbray replaced Owen Coyle as manager.

In four seasons at Celtic Stokes scored 76 goals in all competitions, picking up four SPL winners medals.
