Celtic are almost certain to be seeded throughout the Champions League qualifiers with only Roma winning the trophy and finishing fifth in Serie A depriving the hoops of being among the top four seeds in the Champions Route.

With the winners of this season’s Champions League almost certain to have gained a place in the group phase through their league position an extra group place is available that was reserved for this season’s winners.

Unless Roma win the trophy and fail to finish in the top four of Serie A the winners of the Czech League will move up from the Champions Route into an automatic group place.

Both Viktoria Plzen and Sparta Prague have higher co-efficients than Celtic meaning that if Liverpool, Bayern Munich or Real Madrid win the Champions League the hoops will be the fourth highest seeded team in the Champions Route qualifying route.

With four group places available through that route Celtic would then be in the seeded section alongwith PSV Eindhoven, Salzburg and Ludogorets.

Celtic have been seeded during the last two qualifying campaigns ending up with matches against the champions of Israel and Kazakhstan.

Next season’s Champions Route will involve four rounds of qualifiers all played in successive midweeks starting from the second midweek in July.
