Davie Weir knows exactly how difficult it is to topple Celtic- just over a year ago he was informed that he had resigned after failing to #goingfor55.
Joey Barton, Nico Kranjcar and Pip Senderos were brought in to deliver the title but all that Weir picked up was a P45 and a return ticket south of the border where Warburton had a short disastrous spell in charge of Nottingham Forest.
During the final stages of his playing career Weir enjoyed playing for a team awash with EBT payments but life has been much crueller for the tribute act.
None of the Sevco squad would make the Celtic bench with Weir delivering a typically pessimistic message as he previewed Sunday’s Hampden clash between the Glasgow clubs.
“I think it will be really difficult (for Sevco to close the gap to Celtic),” he admitted to the Sunday Post. “He (Rodgers) is a top manager. He has a method in regards what he does.
“He has the respect of the players, the club, everybody and he is setting the bar high.
“Celtic’s managerial appointment was really good. There was obviously a lot of thought and planning went into it.
“They picked the right man at the right time and he has shown their faith was right.”
Weir had one short spell in management at Sheffield United but after 13 matches that brought one win he was sacked by the Yorkshire club.
