Billy Dodds has hit out at Brendan Rodgers for his comments about Andrew Davies.

The hoops boss was very measured in his criticism of the Ross County defender for his brutal attack on Scott Brown who was grounded at the time.

Rodgers’ main thrust was that Davies had let down his team-mates, management team and supporters by his challenge while his team battles against relegation.

As well as a two match ban for violent conduct the defender could be hit with an additional ban by the SFA but Dodds feels that that option is being driven by the Celtic boss.

You would struggle to find a player who is more honest than Davies is,” Dodds told The Sun. While working for Radio Scotland the former Rangers (IL) striker initially denied getting an EBT payment before it was highlighted in a BBC documentary. Asked later Doddsy replayed ‘Aye but ah didnae know’.

But some of the stuff from Brendan Rodgers after the game was uncalled for.

He mentioned how Jozo Simunovic got a two-game ban for his elbow in the Rangers game, and suggested Davies’ punishment should be worse.

For me, he was trying to influence the disciplinary department with his comments, and that didn’t sit well with me.

The SFA panel is a joke anyway with what goes on.”

Dodds was assistant to Jim McIntyre at Ross County for three years before they were sacked in September.

Soon afterwards he slipped back onto the BBC Scotland roster of pundits which includes Alex Rae, Kris Boyd, Steven Thompson and Barry Ferguson.

According to the BBC Dodds was given an EBT payment of £190,000 which the Supreme Court ruled was disguised remuneration.
