Steve Conroy believes that Andrew Davies should be looking at more than a two match ban.

The Ross County skipper was shown a red card by Steven McLean for his brutal attack on Scott Brown but the word out of Hampden yesterday suggests that no further action will be taken.

That message will be welcomed by the hatchet men of Scottish football with three players being sent off for fouling Brown in Celtic’s last four Premiership matches.

Conroy reached Category One status as a referee but decided to quit after being excluded from high profile televised matches.

In his only match in charge of Celtic against Rangers (IL) he is best remembered for only booking Kyle Lafferty for a brutal over the ball lunge on Andreas Hinkel and for disallowing a ‘goal’ from Marc Antoine Fortune for no apparent reason.

Discussing the possibility of an additional punishment for Davies, Conroy told Radio Scotland: “I think it merits more than two. If I was asked for my opinion, I would say, ‘yeah, it ranks up there’. It’s one of the worst I’d seen.

“It was certainly a nasty challenge. He had no intention of going for the ball. That’s the definition of it, of a violent conduct, which is what he was sent off for.”

Davies will miss County’s match against Partick Thistle tonight.
