The first snag has hit Steven Gerrard’s dream move to Sevco.

On Thursday a ‘deal was close’ to being completed but after the excitement comes reality with The Sun admitting ‘he has concerns over whether he would be given the money required to challenge Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic’.

That would be quite a problem.

In the last year of audited accounts Celtic had a turnover over £90m with Sevco reaching £29.2m in the year to June 2017.

After 14 European matches and reaching two domestic cup finals Celtic are likely to rake in £100m while the bonus of a home match against Progres Niederkorn won’t impact greatly on Ibrox finances.

Despite the problem of having no transfer kitty and trying to offload the duds brought in by Pedro Caixinha last summer Gerrard has been involved in high-level negotiations with Ibrox sources quietly confident of pulling off a blockbuster deal according to The Sun.

In his recent letter to season ticket holders Dave King promised Ibrox fans a manager who would bring instant success.

Gerrard has been in charge of the Liverpool u-18 squad for just over a year and would have to give up his lucrative TV contract with BT Sport if he was to take on the task of working with Jason Holt and Andy Halliday on a daily basis.
