Mikael Lustig taunted Sevco stars by suggesting that the cheer they gave after drawing Celtic in the Scottish Cup was because they would get an early holiday.

Sunday May 13 is the official end of the season for the Ibrox stars but after losing 4-0 at Hampden they can pack their suitcases now for an extended break.

When the draw was made for the Scottish Cup semi-finals it was met with joy from the home dressing room at Ibrox, a fact that Graeme Murty was happy to share on Rangers TV.

Lustig has heard it all before from Ibrox and had an interesting view on the hope that is killing off the tribute act with just one Petrofac Cup to show for their efforts.

Speaking to The Sun the defender said: “There was a lot of talk but we stay calm, we’re humble, we do our talking on the pitch and we’ve won again.”

Asked about the reactions to the semi-final draw he added: “I didn’t really react, to be fair but they probably knew they were going to get some extra days off and get an extra holiday — that’s probably why they were cheering!”

Lustig faces another busy summer with World Cup duty high on his agenda before returning to join in Celtic’s Champions League qualification campaign.

It hasn’t been a vintage season for the full-back but another treble is looming and a unique place in Celtic history while yesterday’s opponents enjoy the summer sun trying to block out memories of another semi-final that went badly wrong.
