Graeme Murty had the look of a comdemned man as he spoke to ‘Rangers TV’ before the 5-0 hammering at Celtic Park.

After the defeat the club pulled down the shutters on the media, including their own in-house operations meaning that the caretaker boss may never be seen again as the face of the company.

For two months Murty was doing and saying all the right things as his side demolished Ayr United and Falkirk in the Scottish Cup playing an exciting brand of football that reminded fans of the early days of Mark Warburton’s reign.

We’ve got a point to prove, we’ve got fire in our bellies.

I don’t have to prove anything, the players have a point to prove.

If I walk out of here tonight unbeaten then I’ll be a happy man

Then after beating Falkirk he made the comment that effectively ended his hopes of getting the manager’s job on a permanent basis.

When Murty told ‘Rangers TV’ that his players had cheered the Scottish Cup semi-final draw against Celtic his number was up.

Three defeats conceding 12 goals later and the caretaker is awaiting news that he has resigned, only Walter Smith’s refusal to return to the company he was chairman of five years ago has kept Murty in the firing line. Soon his time will be up.
