Police Scotland are investigating an anti-Catholic video posted on Facebook by the brother of SNP Minister Derek Mackay.

Last week ahead of another Hampden defeat from Celtic, Stephen Mackay decided to post a video from October 2016 of fans singing the hate anthem ‘The Billy Boys’.

Derek immediately sprang to the defence of his brother with the favoured old line about it coming as a shock and being out of character.

For good measure he added that they were the offspring of a mixed marriage of Catholic and Protestant parents.

Constituents of the Renfrew North and West MSP were alarmed by the video and Mackay’s response.

The Sun reports the Police saying ‘We have received a complaint and inquiries are continuing.’

The Billy Boys has been the anti-Catholic rallying call for generations of Rangers (IL) supporters but was banned by UEFA in 2006.

The club and the SFA enforced the ban but over the last five years Sevco fans have taken to singing it again without any condemnation from the club or the football authorities.
