The pain of Steven Thompson

He summed it up rather well with his first words. ‘It seems ludicrous’.

And so Steven Thompson began.

The attempts to discredit Celtic know no bounds, appropriately the opinion comes from a man who was paid £485,000 in a so called EBT fund.

Last July the Supreme Court in London ruled that the money Thompson received from Rangers was disguised remuneration and liable to income tax and national insurance. And penalties.

These days Thompson’s main source of income comes from the state broadcaster, on the side and no doubt outwith PAYE he shares his original thoughts with The National which is a concession from the Herald Group to the 45% of the Scottish population that voted for Independence.

Thompson’s opinions are remarkably close to those of fellow BBC pundits Alex Rae, Kris Boyd, Billy Dodds and Barry Ferguson.

Trying to convince himself, later in the opinion piece Thommo claims: “As ridiculous as it may sound in normal circumstances when a team is in the position that Celtic are at this stage of the campaign, there is an argument to say that if they do fail to deliver the Scottish Cup and the treble, their season may be perceived to have been somewhat underwhelming.”

Ludicrous and ridiculous.

Perhaps the man from the BBC should spend more time discussing events at the club from Ibrox rather than feigning an interest in St Mirren, another trait of those that cash in cheques from the state broadcaster.
