Celtic had to settle for a point against Ross Conty at Cappielow this afternoon but it was a great match despite nothing being at stake for either side.

The hoops had the bulk of possession but had no luck around goal while keeper Reece Willison made a few impressive saves.

Mikey Johnston started his third match in eight days after being out with a thigh injury and provided most of the attacking spark coming in off either flank.

Turning 19 today Johnston could well feature in one of the post split first team fixtures after it appeared that his season had ended in January through injury.

Both teams were in the mood to play with chances exchanged throughout the first half even though it was to end goal-less.

Tom Caffrey had an early effort pushed round the post for a corner with the visitors almost going in front when a free kick in the 20th minute came off the crossbar.

Celtic finished the half looking the more likely side with Jack Aitchison a constant threat with Johnston, Caffrey and Ewan Henderson all posing a threat.

The hoops started off aggressively in the second half with Dan Church hitting the post from close range in the 56th minute.

Leo Mazis replaced Caffrey just past the hour with Johnston switching to the right allowing Church more licence to push forward.

The match turned into one of those afternoon’s where the harder Celtic tried the more luck deserted them around goal despite the best efforts of all the attacking players. .

Celtic: Willison; Duffy, Welsh, Deas, Church; Bell (Robertson 78), McInroy; Caffrey (Mazis 62), Henderson, Johnston; Aitchison.

SUBS: Hughes, Potter, Kennedy, Campbell, Diver.
