Mikey Johnston is expected to be back in action for the Celtic Development squad this week.

The winger made four top team appearances this season before tearing a thigh muscle in January. With the Premiership title virtually wrapped up Johnston and other younger players such as Kerr McInroy and Stephen Welsh could be given game time as well as Johnston.

It was originally feared that he wouldn’t play again this season but after intensive treatment he could feature against Hibs this week with Celtic playing the Edinburgh side on Monday in the Development League followed by the SFA Youth Cup semi-final on Thursday.

Johnston has been at Celtic for a decade and is rated as one of the most skilful players to have come through the Academy system.

Brendan Rodgers recognised that last season when he gave him his first team debut shortly after turning 18, stating in the 4-1 win over St Johnstone.

Straight after that match Johnston signed a new three year contract.
