Lifelong Ranger Jimmy Bell didn’t seem overly impressed by the arrival of Steven Gerrard in the home dressing room at Ibrox.

Earlier this season Pedro Caixinha painted We Are The People on the walls to emphasise his staunchness but long before Christmas the Portuguese bull-fighter was history.

Bell has witnessed a number of revolutions at Ibrox in his role as kit man and bus driver and survived them all.

Yesterday with the club’s own television cameras following him Gerrard visited the home dressing room.

After a tetchy handshake Bell continued preparing the kit for today’s match against Kilmarnock. As Gerrard walked towards him the kit man turned away leaving the new manager on his own looking around and nervously keeping his laughter in at a portrait of the lady that put the old club into liquidation hanging in the dressing room.

Famously in 1989 he refused to lay out kit for Maurice Johnston after his celebrated signing from Nantes. No action was taken against the kitman with Graeme Souness and Walter Smith happy to have his skillset in the dressing room.

Having effectively blanked his club’s new high profile manager in front of television cameras Bell may be in for a shock when Gerrard returns on the first of June to start his new job.

A number of Liverpool coaches are expected to follow, perhaps Stevie G might have a new kitman in mind after the cold treatment he got from Mr Bell.
