Celtic are close to agreeing a deal to sign Odsonne Edouard with an initial payment of £5m.

According to a report in the Daily Mail talks are progressing well with Paris Saint Germain with the move expected to be completed by June 16.

Since the £6m signing of John Hartson in 2001 the record transfer fee that Celtic have paid is £4.5m for Scott Brown from Hibs and Olivier Ntcham from Manchester City.

Odsonne was brought in on loan at the end of last summer’s transfer window as Brendan Rodgers opted to add a third striker to his squad.

With Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths both dogged by injury during the campaign that decision was vindicated with Edouard banging in 11 goals including three against Sevco.

Getting the 20-year-old back for pre-season training would be a big boost for Celtic’s prospects next season as they look to reach the group stage of the Champions League for the third season running.

The hoops face four qualifying rounds if they are to reach the last 32 with those matches starting on July 10/11 and running for eight consecutive midweeks.
