Celtic fans were puzzled and disappointed by Erik Sviatchenko’s transfer to FC Midtjylland.
The defender spent two very contrasting years in Glasgow before rejoining the Danish side, initially on loan in January.
Despite making his debut in the disastrous League Cup Final defeat from Ross County in January 2016 the form of the defender was one of the few bright spots in Ronny Deila’s final months in charge.
Brendan Rodgers seemed to agree with that assessment with the Dane quickly establishing himself at the centre of defence.
Played with his heart on his sleeve but so slow and made to many errors in big games hence why he fell out of favour, aw the best big man!

Gutted to see you go, Erik! You’re always a Celt, part of the InVIncibles team. ????

The turn of the year and Celtic’s winter break in Dubai proved pivotal to Sviatchenko’s career with Dedryck Boyata coming in from the cold.
The Belgian replaced the suspended Sviatchenko for the Scottish Cup tie at Albion Rovers and never looked back with Jozo Simunovic his regular defensive partner.
Sviatchenko was brought back into the team for the Champions League qualifier away to Rosenborg in August, when he got injured after 20 minutes few would have guessed that his Celtic career was over.
