Gerrard deal goes quiet

Image for Gerrard deal goes quiet

Sevco’s persuit of Steven Gerrard has gone cold.

For five days The Sun led the way with the story as it was portrayed that the former Liverpool skipper was heading towards Ibrox.

There were claims on social media that Gerrard was in Glasgow on Monday for talks but The Sun has no further updates on the story beyond what Danny Murphy had to say on TalkSPORT.

Gerrard’s former team-mate claimed that concrete assurances were required that Sevco would have a budget to compete with Celtic. Unlikely.

It is understood that the interest in Gerrard has all been generated by Dave King, once negotiations get underway with Stewart Robertson and Douglas Park a rather different picture is likely to emerge.

There are some suggestions that Gerrard’s ego will see him confident of overcoming the multitude of problems at Ibrox but sober reflection suggests that Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho couldn’t match supporter expectations backed by a boardroom of lightweights led by a South African based tax crook.

Gerrard is expected to fly to Rome today as part of BT Sports coverage of the Roma v Liverpool Champions League semi-final.

Having not made any public comment on a move to Ibrox he can ease away putting it all down to media speculation as he looks for a manager’s job elsewhere.
