Sevco are set to announce Steven Gerrard as their new manager this afternoon.

A number of media sources have announced a 3pm media conference at Ibrox after a deal was agreed last night with the former Liverpool skipper.

Gerrard was believed to have been seeking war-chest assurances ahead of yesterday’s talks with that issue settled to his satisfaction.

It is not clear if Gerrard will take charge of the three matches remaining this season or allow Jimmy Nicholl to take the flack.

The new Ibrox boss will be given a three year contract and the task of overhauling a squad that has managed two wins and nine defeats against Celtic with the last two derby matches resulting in a 9-0 aggregate for the newly crowned champions.

Last Sunday’s 5-0 hammering from Celtic proved to be the final straw for Graeme Murty who had been the caretaker since November.

Accompanying the announcement of a new manager has been moonbeams about new investment but with share dealing in the club on hold no announcement is expected on how Gerrard’s war-chest will be funded.
