Steven Gerrard won’t be reporting to Ibrox for his much trumpeted first day as manager of Sevco.

The bombshell news has been released to STV as a footnote to news that Lee Wallace has been hit with a four week fine for his dressing room actions following the 4-0 Scottish Cup defeat from Celtic at Hampden.

On Friday May 4 Gerrard was announced as the new manager at Ibrox but surprisingly decided to stay away from the final three matches of the season, leaving Jimmy Nicholl with the task of finishing second to Celtic. Nicholl failed.

The former Liverpool captain mentioned how much he was looking forward to starting work but according to STV:

The former Liverpool midfielder is not expected to be in Glasgow on Friday and will instead be out of the country on transfer business.

Since being appointed as Sevco boss Gerrard has been in Dubai as a Liverpool ambassador and for a holiday.

At the weekend he attended the Champions League final in Kiev then turned out in Rotterdam in a testimonial match for Dirk Kuyt.

Sevco Director of Football Mark Allen has failed to bring in any of Gerrard’s transfer targets with the ‘new manager’ now staying away from Murray Park.
