Brendan Rodgers is confident that summer surgery can restore Leigh Griffiths to full fitness.

The striker has been dogged by calf and hamstring problems throughout this season restricting his availability.

Griffiths will be part of Celtic’s squad for the Scottish Cup Final on Saturday against Motherwell but will go under the knife next week to get to the root of his problems.

It’s been unfortunate for him this year with injury, illness and bits and pieces,” Rodgers told the Evening Times about the striker. “It’s probably been frustrating, but hopefully that will get tidied up and he’ll be back, fit and raring to go for pre-season.”

A fully fit Griffiths would be a big boost for Celtic’s plans for next season.

Odsonne Edouard is due back at Paris Saint Germain next week while doubts surround the future of Moussa Dembele- as they have in every transfer window since he joined Celtic from Fulham in July 2016.

With four Champions League qualifying rounds occupying eight midweeks Rodgers will be hoping for a clean bill of health if he is to take Celtic into the group stage for the third season running.
