The SFA have been caught up in a new tax scandal with James McFadden facing bankruptcy from HMRC.

In February Alex McLeish was appointed as international manager despite receiving £1.7m in disguised remuneration during his time as manager of Rangers (IL).

Last summer the Supreme Court ruled against the liquidators of the old club from Ibrox with income tax, national insurance, interest and penalties now due on that sum.

Yesterday McFadden was appeared at the Sheriff Court in Hamilton where HMRC are attempting to bankrupt McLeish’s number two.

Steven Chesney, representing McFadden told the Daily Record: “There is a very realistic chance of 80 per cent of the money being repaid.

“I would ask for a short continuation to allow that to be done and for further discussions to take place between Mr McFadden and HMRC.”

McFadden made his name at Motherwell before enjoying big money moves to Everton and Birmingham City.

He returned to Scotland to enjoy two more spells at Motherwell and featured last season for Queen of the South.

As well as his SFA wage he is a regular pundit with Sky Sports, Radio Scotland and Radio Clyde.
