Neil Lennon has slammed Sevco for their scandalous treatment of Graeme Murty and revealed that he has spoken to the sacked former Ibrox boss.
Although the comments of the Hibs boss are hardly surprising they add to the weight of evidence available to Steven Gerrard about the reality of life inside Ibrox.
While detached English pundits and media types believe that a few million pounds will revive a fallen giant the reality is that managing Sevco is the toughest job in management.
Getting the better of Celtic is probably an easier task than sorting out the internal disaster that has seen Murty sacked, the captain and a legend on a secret suspension and two directors walking away.
Whatever promises Gerrard can extract in writing from negotiations will be pointless when he joins Mark Warburton, Pedro Caixinha and Murty for the chronic failings of a board of directors that has ‘small time’ stamped all over.
“It’s scandalous the way he’s been treated,” Lennon told the Daily Record. “That’s just my opinion but he’s been hung out on his own.
“I’ve been in that sort of position myself at Bolton when there is no leadership or structure. There is a structure at Rangers but there seems to be a lack of real genuine support.
“When it really got tough a lot of people turned their back on him, which I found unpalatable.”
The former Celtic boss added: “I’ve spoke to him (Murty) this week to offer my support. At the end of the day Graeme is a human being. People forget that.
“It was a very difficult position he was put in and even an experienced guy would find that situation very difficult.
“So I just rang him for a few words of encouragement and to wish him well in whatever he decides to do.”
Murty has the option of returning to Murray Park to coach starlets or to push for a pay off as first team manager.
It is unknown if Warburton received compensation after being sacked less than a year into a three year contract.
