Mikael Lustig has been round the block often enough to shrug aside the noise from Ibrox.

One year it was the Magic Hat, next it was the Portuguese bull-fighter with Steven Gerrard the latest saviour of the increasingly desperate Ibrox support.

As each season of failure passes expectations rise at Ibrox despite the complete absence of substance to back up their optimism.

Big name, expensive 30 plus signings have fuelled the optimism but with a real manager in his dressing room Lustig isn’t getting worried about the speculation and excitement coming from the other side of the city.

Last year was the same,” he told The Sun. “They were going to bring a new manager in.

On paper or in the media it looks good, but we just focus on  ourselves and things are going well so far.”

Gerrard has brought some interest from England on what’s happening in Glasgow but Lustig heard it all before 12 months ago about the fifth best coach in Qatar.

He added: “Caixinha had more routine as a manager, so we’ll see.”

Lustig has picked up six title winner medals since he arrived from Rosenborg in 2012 but has now turned his concentration to international duty.

Sweden play their opening match on June 18 against South Korea followed by matches against Germany and Mexico.
