Over the last fortnight the big hitters in Ibrox hospitality circles have been reassured that dramatic news was on the way.

So big that it would send Celtic into meltdown, take the shine off the Scottish Cup Final and kill off the myth of Brendan Rodgers.

The gullibles lapped it up, they kept it all fairly hush hush although a few couldn’t keep quiet and warned Celtic acquiantances that times were about to change with the ‘big announcement’.

As big news comes it doesn’t get much more low key than Jamie Murphy signing a three year contract.

The former Brighton winger is a True Blue in the same mould as Andy Halliday and Greg Docherty. Brighton weren’t difficult to deal with after Sevco finally stumped up one third of the fee that had been agreed in January.

If they can get round to it Murph will be seen in last season’s Puma kit talking about his delight at getting the deal completed.

Soon-to-be-appointed Sevco boss Steven Gerrard said: “He had an impressive start to his Rangers career in the second half of last season and we hope to see him continue to grow at the club next season and beyond.”

Murphy made a two minute appearance for Scotland against Costa Rica in March but has been left out of the mid summer tour matches against Peru and Mexico.
