Jamie Redknapp expects Steven Gerrard to take the challenge to Celtic- backed up by investment and new players!

It seems that the Daily Mail columnist isn’t keeping upto date with Scottish football matters with both of those key factors in short supply for the in-coming Ibrox boss.

Since he was announced as the next manager Director of Football Mark Allen has brought in three more players that wouldn’t get on the Celtic bench- Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor and Jamie Murphy.

Three days after Gerrard arrived at Ibrox Dave King promised a £6m share issue in June, on Friday the calendar changes with no further word from Ibrox to back up another of King’s fabled promises.

Backed up by the magic of the Stevie Gee brand English pundits are expecting the resumption of the ‘Old Firm’ rivalry- still unaware of the real events in 2012 as the Continuation Lie takes root.

Looking forward Redknapp explained: “Rangers could do with Gerrard the player, but they will have to accept Gerrard the manager. Yes, he’s a novice – but he’s a fast learner.

The off-the-pitch demands will be a challenge for him, especially in the hotbed of Glasgow, and I welcome that he can rely on another former team-mate of mine, Gary McAllister, to take some of the load.

Taking Gary Mac is a smart move and a first important ‘signing’. There will need to be plenty more as Rangers must follow up their promise of investment – they need better players.”

All the cliches about Gerrard the winner will soon be put to the test as he attempts to get the best out of Andy Halliday, Josh Windas and Graham Dorrans to win his first ever league title.
