Sevco have dropped their ‘interest’ in signing Martin Skrtel.

Despite a week of hype surrounding the Fenerbahce defender the well connected Chris Jack has revealed in the Evening Times that Skrtel won’t be joining the revolution.

That message is at odds with The Sun who claimed on Monday that a £2.7m deal had been agreed to take the former Liverpool defender to Ibrox.

At the age of 33 signing Skrtel would be a massive risk with the Slovakian looking for a three year contract.

Sevco have been stung with a series of expensive, thirty-something flops including Nick Kranjcar, Joey Barton, Pip Senderos and Bruno Alves.

So far Steven Gerrard has been unable to bring in any of his own targets with only Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor and Jamie Murphy signing up.

Kenny Miller is the only first team player out of contract meaning that Gerrard will start pre-season training with last season’s failures.

Assuming that they are awarded a UEFA licence by the SFA the first games of next season will be on July 12 and 19 with no details of pre-season matches announced.
